BIOGRAPHY

Nigel was born and bred in South Wales. His first 'proper' job after school just happened to be a 30 year police career. All the time that he was involved with that career he always harboured a desire to be a 'creative' and a 'performer' in some way.

Latterly he realised that being a police officer was very much about 'performing' on a big and wide open 'real life' stage. On retirement he took part in a number of local stage plays and started making his own films, mainly to create opportunities for himself, his main filmic collaborator and others. In recent years that has developed into making a large number of information films around a central theme about how 'Communication and Connection can positively influence peoples' wellbeing'.

This passion in large part came about due to the fact that he had personally experienced a fairly substantial period of depressive illness himself when he was a police officer. His thought is ... " I didn't ask for this to happen to me and it was definitely an unpleasant experience, but I may well be able to usefully apply that knowledge to help others from going down that same road in future".

Nigel wanted to join the 'I AM WALES' project because it provides a further opportunity to talk about his passion for providing people with straightforward, practical and useful information to assist them to be able to help themselves in their lives. Really, it is all about 'helping them to be as good as they can be in their very own special circumstances'.

As part of the I Am Wales project, we had the opportunity to host a live radio broadcast on Radio Cardiff. This was aimed at complementing our visual voice and raising awareness or highlighting a topic of interest.

We underwent several training sessions at Radio Cardiff and were quickly thrown into the deep end.
